this helps me understand the whole rat vs postrat thing a lot better i’m very interested in hearing more from people who have had ‘deconversion’ experiences with rat ideology or anyone who had a bad experience with ‘rationalism’

the esoteric meaning of "postrationalist" is a person who is recovering from the totalizing memes in the rationalist ecosystem. it is a trip. especially because you can't just refute them by saying AGI is impossible

but when i see something that i think is overly totalizing/closed-minded i just, mentally correct for this? i don’t feel like i’m vulnerable to these totalizing memes or at risk of falling victim to cult-eque mechanics (altho i guess if i did have brainworms i wouldn’t know)

i think that object-level rat beliefs are broadly correct in the areas where they differ from normies (e.g. AI, covid, trusting authority, probably cryonics) and i generally like the culture a lot altho postrats seem to be more playful in some ways, which is good

so when people say they’ve had really bad experiences with rat culture/ideology i wonder what i’m missing tbf i’m only familiar with the online side of the culture—i’ve never been to a meetup or lived in the bay area or whatever—and even then i’m not super deep into it
