in retrospect maybe a memetic advantage i don't talk or think much about having is that i was AGI-pilled for long enough that i know what having a totalizing narrative about the most important thing feels like from the inside and i know what it feels like to step out of it

Heh this might be the first time I've seen a recovering person accurately identify "totalizing" as the main sin of AGI-pilled types (and all similarity transforms thereof). It's also why I've tended to dismiss category theory (likely unfairly) as uninteresting because totalizing.

yeah category theory does trend in that direction and in retrospect it attracted me for similar reasons to LW / yud's writing
The psychologizing of math strikes me as a bit weird, but I'll take it as an update on the kind of communities that surround category theory.

I guess the opposite would be number theory. Weird isolated pointillist results that donβt add up to any sort of grand-unified satisfying theory.

not my area, but isn't the langlands progam kind of like a GUT of number theory?
