i've been debating where talking about this falls on "helps people" vs. "harms people" and i think i'm leaning towards "helps people feel more sane for worrying" b/c i think worrying is currently underrepresented on my TL

i don't really have anything intelligent to say beyond that. new strains seem bad. brazilian strain possibly very bad. idk what to think or feel or do

Why out of interest? I mean more transmissible is bad, but all the vaccines seem to work for all the variants so far, so the extent of bad is capped.

also like. the fact that a bunch of mutations happened within a short time frame suggests that they're gonna keep happening. there's no reason to believe we've seen the worst of the mutations

we hit 50M cases in November, now we're at 100M. so half of
all cases worldwide are 2.5 months old or less. mutations are proportional to that count and need a few months runway till they're noticable for the slow part of the exponential curve
