in grad school i was really into doing math that was like loosely inspired by physics but saved you from having to do any real physics and now i'm wondering how much of that was coming from like a suppressed desire to just actually do real physics

i've written a lot of math posts but most of them were not as thrilling to write as this physics post where, after staring at a fire for awhile, i went through the derivation of planck's law for black body radiation from quantum statistical mechanics
