I have a rant about how absurd it is that they all suck given that they all serve the same commodity (40M songs) so they really ought to be innovating more on features...
...and what I'd do instead. I know a few people trying to build something good.

it's wild how we have in many ways not improved on winamp
also unlike winamp if you hate a song you can't even delete the mp3

What I miss is better and librarianship, like it’s unclear how to browse the music of let’s say Mozart. Do I browse through the albums in the “discography”? Jazz also doesn’t fit so clearly—I don’t remember if I need the Miles Davis Quartet or the Miles Davis Quintet.
