it’s interesting to consider the role of gender in the character archetypes of Terry and Rosa. Terry is the big, tall muscular behemoth of a man who’s a total softie. Rosa is a murderous flower. Imagine gender-swapping the characters- it would be less compelling, too flat

it actually bothers me that the characters wouldn't work if they were gender-swapped and i'm trying to see if i can articulate why without sounding like an asshole

not that i think there's anything wrong with either of those in isolation! but i don't like the implication that the big scary tough guy has to be a softie and isn't in turn allowed to express as much anger and hardness as he feels
