as a kid who was from age 12 avidly and openly fascinated by consciousness, how the mind works, philosophy of mind
(& by age 16 cog sci, GEB / self-reference)
(& went to college for cog sci & AI)
... why did nobody in my life ever suggest I might enjoy meditating?

“Yeah, the mind is pretty cool and you are one! Have you heard you can just... watch what your mind is/does, just for fun? It’s pretty cool some people just do it for hours!”
“Also if you’ve done a bunch of that, your philosophizing about it will be easier and less confused!”

Right!!! That EXACT level of enthusiasm!!! For literally years!!! Surely some adult could’ve clued me in about this other thing I might be jazzed about!
(Note: QC and I went to middle school together, were in the same middle school philosophy class, this is a direct quote)

we were in a gifted program and they were like "hey kids we're gonna test out a new thing where we teach you philosophy in 8th grade" and we had a blast
also i read atlas shrugged and became an objectivist for a few months so it's impossible to say whether it was good or bad
