Anime Twitter, I need your guidance.
After 33 years of not engaging with anime, I have now been anime-pilled via Death Note, which is incredible (I have not yet finished, please don't spoil).
So... where do you recommend I go from here?
I will collate and share answers.

Monogatari, while great (or so *everybody* tells me) is HARD to parse. It's a very different beast from any other anime.

also basically impossible to appreciate without knowing the context for...everything

Yeah. It's adapted from classical Japanese lit. An episode is essentially 20 min of pure dialogue, and the dialogue is chock-full of wordplay and puns that are hard to catch even if you are fluent in Japanese.

to be fair you don't actually need to appreciate and understand all those elements of the wordplay; theres *plenty* of stuff that gets translated fine. Just be sure to watch all 15 episodes of Bakemonogatari; some sources only have the first 12. the last 3 are not optional.

it's actually extremely nuanced and good! I wrote an essay bout it
