i could become a much better musician if i just let myself do a few hard scary things that i'd start out bad at but get much better at with practice

trying to play along with songs is one example; i want to be able to play stuff by ear and i've never let myself even try to practice until pretty recently

Main instruction is: spend 100s of hrs "jamming with experts" which is Victor Wooten's description of how to learn a language natively. That's how babies learn their native language.
For music, that means, put on songs and play along. A lot. (And no wrong notes.)

Ha, itβs neat how different people have differently-shaped comfort zones.
I want to be able to play a handful of songs *not*-by-ear, but devoured from paper in their full composer-designed flourishing glory, and for me thatβs the hard and scary thing π
(I play ~only by ear)
