the rationalists use the term "load-bearing problem" for this which is p useful to have when you iterate rationality workshops enough it doesn't take all that long to run into people who actively don't want to solve their problems

i probs don't need to tell you this but people can build very very complicated semi-functional internal structures over a lifetime and get stuck in a very sticky local maxima

there are a couple high-profile rats who kinda brag about how psychedelics don't affect them and you can kinda see it from the way they hold onto their internal structures very very very very tightly
