the rationalists use the term "load-bearing problem" for this which is p useful to have when you iterate rationality workshops enough it doesn't take all that long to run into people who actively don't want to solve their problems

there are a couple high-profile rats who kinda brag about how psychedelics don't affect them and you can kinda see it from the way they hold onto their internal structures very very very very tightly

when you want someone to break a structure like that, esp. if they're sufficiently identified with it, you're in a very real sense wanting them to die in order to be replaced by someone you think is better, and that's... rough
