PSA: if you sound like a thundering wildebeest choking to death please consider getting tested for sleep apnea. there are interventions that could maybe dramatically improve the quality of your sleep forever

One of the things you get sleeping in a room with a dozen guys is exposure to many different kinds of snoring. Some dudes snore a cute gentle snore, and then there are dudes who sound like thundering wildebeest choking to death

i googled around to find a sleep apnea specialist in my area who was very nice and competent and he eventually determined i had sleep apnea (said i had a large tongue that blocked off my throat at night lol) and got me fitted for an oral appliance: somnomed.com/en/patients/so

been wearing it at night for... i don't even know, at least a year now, maybe two, and i'm sleeping much better now (still not consistently super great but it was awful before). every night i don't sleep with it in i wake up feeling awful in my chest and the day is ruined

it takes some getting used to and i think it's now causing some unfortunate tension in my jaw but the way my chest used to feel before was much worse
