attack on titan gets worse, the manga gets real weird and i haven't watched the anime beyond season 2

it's very competently crafted on every level IMO; dense and compelling plot, rich cast of likable characters, good humor and good drama and good balance of the two, extremely dope magic system and fight scenes; overall pretty much firing on all cylinders

part of "rich cast of likable characters" is solid gender balance also; lots of solid female characters who aren't sidelined plotwise, practically no fanservice that i can remember
also tbc i'm talking about brotherhood, haven't watched the 2003 anime
I watched the 2003 one, not brotherhood, but I still agree with your description

I seem to be alone in preferring the 2003 one. In brotherhood they constantly make "edward is short" jokes like every single episode and it kind of ruins the tone imo
