[david chapman voice] inspected carefully, we see that what counts as real or not is ongoingly negotiated in interaction. there is no context-independent notion of "realness" - when someone asks, "is X real?" we can respond "in what sense, for what purpose?"
In this case, as well as most cases, the context can be inferred. Interestingly, it can be inferred here (in OP) even though they are wrong

In this convo does everybody know about colors like hypergreen that are representable in human 3D conespace but can’t be stimulated by any mixture of visible wavelengths? That’s a pretty nice genuine edge case for what is a “real” color

I guess talking about “imaginary primaries” does imply y’all probably know about hypergreen. Have you done the exercise to try to *see* hypergreen? E.g. therefractedlight.blogspot.com/2010/09/imagin
