Nothing so complicated is needed. Hermode tuning already works pretty well, and is supported by various DAWs and VSTs.

It's surprising that old fashioned temperaments haven't become more in vogue in popular music, as many songs are in one key, and 2020-era keyboards often have alternative temperaments. This would give pop bands purer fifths and sweeter thirds.

This isn't really built into the nature of reality, just the nature of musical notation / pianos.
For vocals, strings, trombone, synth, you can have music that sounds perfectly harmonious (or disharmonious).

Does the fact that it mostly works for listeners imply that perfect tuning is over precise w.r.t. the imperfect biology that's perceiving it?

This is one reason why a cappella choral singing can be really fun: it's comparatively easy to make small variations in tuning even for one chord. Often you'll make it a bit more "just" to make it really pop.
