pythagoras: aha! musical harmony is governed by the ratios of small integers! how beautiful. how glorious. i will make this fact the centerpiece of my entire worldview
whoever invented equal temperament: lol what if we just used powers of uhhh the twelfth root of two instead
sounds nice 😔

hey want to find out even more crazy shit
pianos shouldn’t be tuned to integer ratios because of dispersion
the harmonics of the deeper notes will slightly misalign with the higher notes creating dissonance

My SoundCloud is abandoned now, but: 19-tone equal divison of the octave audio.northcoastsynthesis.com/?a=19-tone-can , 22-tone audio.northcoastsynthesis.com/?t=ten_pm_rag
19 is the next logical step after 12 in some theories; 22 gives good matching of ratios involving the prime 7 (which is hard to match in 12-tone)

equal temperament was a plot to bring down Big Piano-tuning who were making a killing adjusting pianos every time someone wanted to play in a different key.
