okay so this thing. this nerds vs. jocks thing. where does it come from? i picked it up from TV and movies and shit. who was patient zero? were a bunch of filmmakers bullied a lot in high school? did their bullies have dads who were WWII or vietnam vets or something?

Even as far forward at the late 80s and into the 90s, yes, it absolutely did happen. "Nerds" were often the target of harassment (partially because, and this is WAY forgotten now, "nerdism" was often seen a component of, and flag for, homosexuality).

Of course, then the new millennium hit and "nerd stuff" was suddenly the biggest moneymaker on the planet and a lot of that just went away and everyone was interested in it. But "jocks harassing nerds" absolutely did happen, often rather viciously.
