okay so this thing. this nerds vs. jocks thing. where does it come from? i picked it up from TV and movies and shit. who was patient zero? were a bunch of filmmakers bullied a lot in high school? did their bullies have dads who were WWII or vietnam vets or something?

anime is cool because there just isn't a nerd / jock dichotomy. it's more of like a... hmm winner / loser thing? the people on top are just good at everything. they have the highest grades *and* are the best at sports *and* run clubs or the student council or w/e

yeah, I think the bullying is one of the most contrived things in that whole narrative in Russian school the "jocks" tended to look up to the nerds, for knowing how to navigate school. esp if you let them cheat, and could talk to authority lol. our jocks fought to protect us

exactly one of the jocks I ran into in high school was a bully, and as soon as we could avoid each other that stopped being a problem also two of the kids in the Smart Kids Programme* were on the varsity football team * IB if you're keeping score
