okay so this thing. this nerds vs. jocks thing. where does it come from? i picked it up from TV and movies and shit. who was patient zero? were a bunch of filmmakers bullied a lot in high school? did their bullies have dads who were WWII or vietnam vets or something?

it might just be me but i feel like it's one of those things that "did happen", but went through like seventeen rounds of cultural amplification and got turned into a large-scale cultural false memory i blame "revenge of the nerds" for at least 85% of this

it feels like there's a thing where large-scale cultural narratives get retroactively imposed on individual experiences, creating a "simple" large-scale story out of a set of fractured, varied experiences and then we buy into those narratives, live them, and reify them
