Co-sign on these. I'm going to add a proviso, though: I loved these books, and also left feeling deeply unsatisfied, because the (awesome, enormous) central conceit of the fantasy was begging for tolkien-level worldbuilding to really explore.

alright, alright, here's a thing that's not fucked up: if you're in the mood for fantasy but, like, good, read daniel abraham's long price quartet. it's 4 books spaced 14 years apart and you get to see characters go from being young hotheads to old parents, it's awesome

Oh, absolutely, if a book has gotta be criticized "these were deeply moving and solid, but the idea was so good I wish a massive genius had spent twenty years working it out" ain't bad 😆
