I have the sense that boredom is not taken nearly as seriously in classrooms as it should be—as far as educational impairments go, it’s probably the most common one of them all.

In hindsight, optimization isn't the best word/process to use...I'm trying to more clearly define the space between creepy dopamine-milking a la those videos and constantly feeling drained of interest or engagement. Simply rigging education to have cheap stimulation doesn't help

The state of boredom really is a negative experience (I know it can be useful as a springboard for creativity, but that assumes you can do things to get out of said state). And chronic boredom is a risk factor for addictive behavior—constant numbness has terrible side effects.
