You see this in fantasy all the time. Stay with me. Guys learn how spells work from gals, use prototypical male aggression/male bonding to, instead of many small spells with local goals, cast one extremely big spell at self, or group of guys at selves.
In line with normal male orientation toward dominance and survival, point of spell is generally to achieve permanent victory and peace and honored status. Big spells often have many load-bearing small parts. E.g. total honesty is great for making group's needs legible to leaders.
