when i was growing up in the '00s the culture war battle lines felt like

π₯ rep = christian (the bad kind), sex for reproduction only, gays bad, drugs bad
so "marriage and kids" was conservative, hence uncool

then something else happened i don't feel like i have a ton of clarity on, but something like, millennials as an entire generation froze and stagnated in adolescence and collectively failed to grow up, maybe ultimately due to economic hopelessness idk

I've still never seen someone try to cancel marriage except extreme radfems (that are nowadays more aligned with the right wing often)
there's an extra factor tho -- people nowadays often can't afford to have kids. it's more and more a privilege. I wonder if it's a status symbol

I can see a lot of hesitation on the part of people who grew up having to worry about their parent's financials, or where their parents didn't have time for emotional well-being (ie too many kids, not enough time). Personally if I did adopt it'd be like, 2 maximum.
