Lord Fanny from the Invisibles - she played a shamanic drag queen who, on the surface seemed vain, shallow and hedonistic - yet numerous times pulled off some bad ass warrior shit and saved the day.
That series was amazing in every way.
Interestingly, I can think of more examples of female characters that embody typically masculine characteristics while maintaining femininity than I can of the flip side.
Is that just my own bias? Or do we have some work to do in the arts??
I feel like "catty, slightly effeminate gay dude who turns out to be brave and competent in a way that is completely congruent with his persona" is a thing, but I can't think of any examples. 🤔
Yeah. That's who I want to be, hah!
But what about the male side? I feel like we do maybe see more nuance with women in general- strength is seen as masculine, but it's also starting to be seen as generally attractive, so maybe that's part of why strong women are a thing?
Emotionally, I mean.
But the nurturing bit, that's more typically feminine, and maybe not as culturally attractive as strength, at the moment?
I want to see more men who are unafraid to be both nurturing/loving and strong, maybe?
