I think we have a fundamentally different idea of attraction; I think it is more intrinsic than cultural.
Our problem is that our sense of attraction to others is immediate and intuitive, but our sense of what others are attracted to in us is a distorted projection.

Again, I am suspicious of how much of that is cultural.

Intellectually I can see what you’re saying, but... I feel like I and other women admire men’s bodies all the time? Like, think of all this talk online about forearms... or watching a man lift something. Or just even stretch or something, and they look all strong and sexy! Idk...

i resonate with chris a lot. the way i’d say it is like... the kind of men i see physically admired online feel like a completely different gender from me. none of that activity feels like it is or could be about me. they’re buffer or taller or whiter or whatever
I have had the good fortune to meet and be friends with men who broke every single major narrative rule about attractiveness and still had extremely successful romantic lives.
