there are a lot of non-monetary reasons to do "fucked up" things, they're just taken at a more safe speed tho social power, attention, admiration, etc. is never going anywhere

maybe more than the economic system, something like "society cultures where everything is permitted unless explicitly banned vs societies where everything is banned unless explicitly permitted" although I guess either could have high openness for deciding on those banned things

Follow-up: Some (most?) of those shadow desires ought to be suppressed, for the sake of both individual and collective well-being / human flourishing. Arguments for the liberation of shadow desires are usually articulated by those who stand to profit from them
