the first time i read The Magicians the fact that every character hates their parents was an unremarkable background fact i completely ignored but this time i think it holds the key to understanding all their motivations

In something totally unrelated a few months ago I rewatched the first episode of Phineas and Ferb and finally realizes the motivations for Candace throughout the entire series.

I never understood why she was so obsessed with busting her brothers instead of going along, in fact when she did go along she benefited a lot.
