speaking of which, i occasionally wonder how much of the energy behind polyamory is due to romantic relationships being, in the US at least, the only normalized way to justify planning your life with someone you're not related to

on a serious note the thing with marriage is that it is a legal structure: you can replicate the binding with contracts and shared funds or an LLC if you want the rest is human trust I find that binding people isn't in my interest; keeping a community open churns people

I have historically agreed with you, but my views became a little more complicated I guess (after ending a marriage-like relationship that would have been harder to end if we had actually married). Marriage is sort of a commitment device/"butt promise"...
