everything i want seems impossible. like, in both directions: it seems that once a thing becomes possible i stop wanting it
Conversation
you mean deliberately stop wanting things in order to make them possible? hmmmm 🤔🤔🤔

felt experience of "reaching towards" maybe? i've been trying to notice these when they bubble up to see if i can build motivation towards doing anything other than tweet but they're all about things that seem impossible so then they die off :/

do you think this is better or worse than the standard "i stop wanting something as soon as i get it"? seems like it saves some time at least.

When you want something, you often try to obtain it. If you succeed, then you have it and no longer want it (eg. felt thirsty -> got water). If you fail enough (but not enough to give up entirely) it feels impossible (eg. relationship trouble). It's a selection effect!

One thing that helped me recently I got from nonviolent communication: try to find the base need instead of looking for a specific goal
it becomes less about getting a specific thing and more about the freeform movement towards fulfilling that need
Here's some needs examples

if you go "I need X" and then "action Y will give me what I want", you can get stuck focusing on action Y and its qualities. If I get stuck, I return back to the need. Or potentially, search for the need that is conflicting with doing action Y
