Replying to
one of the most reliable ways i had for learning something in grad school was to sign up to give a talk on it; stressful but it worked
hmm it's not guaranteed
I once gave a talk without understanding it, everyone thought I understood it perfectly (except one very close friend who suspected it and to whom anyway I revealed the deception 5 minutes after)
