I like to do little hops when I’m squatting - I find it helps me find my optimal footing. The optimal footing for a squat should intuitively be the same or similar optimal footing for a vertical leap, and your body knows what that feels like

Same. After some research and inspection, I found I had a collapsed left arch that made me over-pronate my left foot, distorting my movement and posture up the kinetic chain. If you have calluses or shoe wear much more on one side of your feet than the other, you may have it too.

Doing heave squats definitely changed how I stand and feel standing for the better. It feels like if someone wanted to move me, I could just not agree to it. Feels like I actually own the little bit of space I occupy. Really cool thing.
