Question for the folks in this thread who understand programming stuff better than me: I've been seeing various demos of GPT-3. Could one ask GPT-3 to write a novel by giving it sort of an outline of basic plot points and character developments, as well as stylistic preferences?

no, it doesn't have enough "working memory" to be coherent at that length (yet). it can generate coherent-ish page-long snippets though. take a look:

I wonder if we can get around the context window limitation by using GPT-3’s impressive summarization and expansion capabilities together to allow it to reason over much larger context windows at higher levels of abstraction:
