Can someone help convince me that I get to *choose* what things I expend my effort on?
Even if it feels as though choosing NOT to do the thing deprives my community of *vast* amounts of value?
that I could've provided to the commons, at "not that much" cost to myself?

How the heck can I make this feel like a real choice. It does not.
The value is RIGHT THERE. It is just SITTING THERE.

i guess i get curious about at least two things here, like
1) what the part that is resisting doing the "value" thing wants, and
2) what's at stake for you wrt something like... "being selfish"

1) focus properly when sitting down to do job tasks, or like, at least CHOOSE not to? I do sit down to do work, but they are not good clean focused hours at all

2) eh, the value-to-community thing feels pretty extremely selfish, but maybe that's part of the tangle. feels like if I don't help my community with this, it'll just keep biting me in the ass, so I need to do this for my own "safety" too
questioning that premise seems juicy.
