My chemistry teacher had a rare nerve disorder that lead to exponentially more frequent nerve attacks in their face. They literally researched and diagnosed the illness, served it to their doctor, and got them to approve an experimental treatment

it was absurd; they are a hero and a national treasure in my eyes. They survived that and a stroke, and is still teaching
I disappointed them years later when they found out I didn't major in chemistry😭

I also diagnosed my rare genetic connective tissue disorder on my own after an off-hand comment by a doctor relating to something completely different! Took me years to get the interventions and treatments that I needed though, and eventually I learned to manage it without drugs
