i never cheated and was very anti-cheating for a long time but then i gradually came to understand that schools should not exist and i care a lot less now
There's a difference between saying the metrics and incentive systems we use are bad or damaging, and actively attempting to subvert them to make the system worse.
Schools are worse than many alternatives, but cheating as a response is a negative-sum defection game.
It doesn't subvert the metrics themselves, but it may subvert the metrics grasp on one's soul or one's validity. Like setting aside the idea that the school gets to say if you're good enough and that you ought to have to try & prove yourself.
Maybe put another way, cheating at the Olympics is dishonorable because it undermines the meaning of it.
The meaning of school is already fucked because students are coerced into it, and undermining that meaning has its own validity.
