forgot to give my KTN so i didn't get precheck and had to go through regular security like a pleb, it was exactly as bad as i remember

You can add your KTN at your airline's check-in counter! You just need to talk to somebody, it usually can't be done via a self-serve kiosk.

well you can def add it on your way back, which is the more important time-saver anyway because in my experience pre-check lines are almost always completely empty at non-bay area airports (in contrast to SFO where I've seen pre-check lines as long as the standard line)
