It's easier to notice this for "negative" emotions but it's also happening with "positive" emotions. We also don't know how to handle our own joy or wonder or euphoria; we feel we don't deserve it and fear punishment; we fear that we look ridiculous or unacceptable to others.

the historical record for accomplishment has a survivorship bias: we see people who accomplished things (e.g. the industrial revolution) but not people who could have counterfactually accomplished much better things (e.g. a sustainable version of the industrial revolution)

i agree there's a positive effect in this direction, but i'm not convinced that we're at a point where the marginal benefits of this dominate other things otoh, i can buy that solving AI-risk requires technical meaning understanding for which you need to do this to make progress
