The discourse about impostor syndrome bothers me, because it IS POSSIBLE to be underqualified for a role or responsibility I've had multiple experiences of attempting to raise to a supervisor "Hey, I'm not doing well at this" only to be told I was doing fine. This sucked!

I *can tell* when I am or am not doing good solid work, versus whether I'm only giving the appearance of doing so. People have the ability to detect soundness and making sense, versus confabulated nonsense, including in their own output. Why do we gaslight this out of them?

Replying to @uncatherio
it is actually hard to tell whether someone has impostor syndrome, and people are mostly not trained to do this
there definitely are people who cannot tell whether they're doing good work, or rather, who need to not be able to acknowledge that they're doing good work
