Jobs are central to current society. They are so important for individual's social roles that the lower upper class creates jobs for themselves merely to have a socially legible place in society.

Jobs are socially important, but are they economically important? How much do they add to productivity? I think less than usually assumed. Some sectors need jobs to be productive. Other sectors larp jobs to keep those working in the former sectors happy.
