somehow i feel like growing up in the 90s i was sort of ambiently promised by american culture at large that everything would be basically fine. does that resonate with anyone else?

Growing up in the 80s was kinda like 10s right now, but this is significantly worse. That felt like the last decade of a big 50-year conflict (Cold War). This feels like the beginning of a new 50-year conflict. You guys were programmed for a longer period of peace than you got.
