I never derived meaning from fiction, what's up with that? Did I break somewhere? Also fairly suspicious of fiction in general - like theres so much meaning obviously out there in the world if you care to look, and fiction is a distraction at best, and miscalibration at worst

i think i’ve derived a lot less meaning from fiction than most people and agree about the miscalibration. fiction still seems like one of the most powerful ways to deliver metaphors, concepts, and frames that people otherwise might not have. e.g. hogwarts houses

you need this less if you’re capable of just finding your own metaphors, concepts, and frames; philosophical background might help with this, also maybe mathematical background, or just generally being good at pattern recognition
