I never derived meaning from fiction, what's up with that? Did I break somewhere? Also fairly suspicious of fiction in general - like theres so much meaning obviously out there in the world if you care to look, and fiction is a distraction at best, and miscalibration at worst

i think i’ve derived a lot less meaning from fiction than most people and agree about the miscalibration. fiction still seems like one of the most powerful ways to deliver metaphors, concepts, and frames that people otherwise might not have. e.g. hogwarts houses

I suspect learning to write fiction well comes with sensemaking superpowers, especially on the Communication side. So good things all around.

Seems to depend on the medium. It's hard to believe that newly-written *written* fiction has much impact anymore, especially not in genres that have been captured by the mainstream tribes. Maybe some video games are still significant.

Why stop at creating fiction when you can create a fiction genre?
