What about it is superior to being observant and rational?
"rationality" can be disabled as a defense by a sufficiently intelligent adversary, and i'm speaking from personal experience here; it's not a substitute for sense-making and meaning-making which has both pre-rational (e.g. emotional / perceptual) and meta-rational components

The devil defense is really weak in my opinion. Just look at evangelicals and Trump. I think any type of superstitious meme defense system is prone to way bigger attacks than something which is more logical and grounded in reality
