Hey all of my friends on Twitter, would someone like to explain the difference to me between pride (very fucking bad) and "acknowledging legit potential" that you're good?

off the cuff: the thing that's bad about pride is a kind of willful blindness. "i'm so good i don't have to worry about X anymore," where X is e.g. a sober evaluation of the actual obstacles in your way, other people's feelings, etc.
slight riff: some people only know how to pay attention to e.g. other people's feelings using anxiety. those people will find that once they feel good enough about themselves to stop feeling anxiety, they no longer pay attention to other people's feelings, and then whoops
