no. honestly combination of coasting on raw intelligence + lucky to have a few good mentors growing up, esp. the one who made me do math contests and summer programs + insistently following my curiosity (but not in a way that felt effortful)
oh, also responding extremely well to the gamification parts of MathOverflow and math.StackExchange

i'm reminded of Raymond Smullyan. there were great whimsical stories in The Tao is Silent with philosophical themes of effortlessness and play and the paradox of wanting to be good person.
