Thinking one’s feelings sounds a lot like (an important part of) cultivating the inner observer to me. Is that what they were talking about?

they were talking about having thoughts about what your feelings might be vs. actually feeling your feelings. i do this a lot and i think it’s particularly an issue for smart people
