"... but I think this dude is channeling some insight less crazy than he appears, he's just SUPER confused about the deductive implications of it" - Dai I don't have the math chops of either of you guys, (or philosophy of math) but my gut & experience says Dai is maybe right.

So yeah, I too think there's some kind & some amount of insight in there. And a layer of super-confusion about the deductive implications. Dai, in a nutshell, what do you perceive the nugget of insight to be?

I'll have to chew on that for a while and watch the extended video. I will say I think the insights after fundamentally not mathematical, which is part of why it fails so spectacularly when described as math.

one guess is "there are no straight lines" might be a form of map/territory distinction

The lines vs waves bit seems more like a form vs substancelessness distinction, which are both aspects of the map but we usually think of it more as form. The "in between space" is pretty telling. But also I think this guy is legit having a psychotic break and in worried abt him

I also have a second- or third-order concern around how our culture has stigmatized psychotic breaks in really f'ed-up ways, and handles them in often destructive and harmful ways.

There's a great reference that @ThatChrisRyan likes to make, about cross-cultural studies of schizophrenia. In North America, many ppl who hear voices (not *at all*saying that TH is experiencing this, BTW) - they have experience of voices telling them to do violent things

...Whereas in India, a study found that people self-reported their experience of hearing voices was mostly positive: "the voices told me to clean my room, so I did" "the voices told me to be nice to my mom, because I love her, so I did" Same "disease" / constellation of symptoms

completely different experience of those symptoms. Multifactorial causation: different social rhythms, pressures, family experience, different interaction of law + medicine/psychiatry, etc etc

hmmmmm wonder if hearing voices is just a partial reversion to the bicameral state of consciousness that julian jaynes wrote about 🤔
