this has been a theme of my thoughts lately, how lots of advice is about improving coping mechanisms in a way that delays crisis, and how this isn't obviously good in the long run kinda think people would be better off having crises as quickly as they have the resources for

@utotranslucence said once that she didn't trust anybody who hadn't gone through at least 3 crises and i think there's a lot to that, especially in the choice of 3 specifically after your 1st or 2nd crisis you might think you're done but after #3 you're like "oh. i see."Show this thread

ye I read a book that argued self-care as it's currently defined creates a sort of narcissism, where you view the sorts of little pleasures as being a "duty" and thus lose your actual enjoyment of them, converting it into "ego building". very tragic.

(he attributes this to Foucault's misread of ancient philosophies of happiness e.g. the stoics, which is hilarious and highly irrelevant to the actual cultural basis of self care)
