not surprising to hear! been thinking a lot about the relationship between emotional triggers and allergies

wondering where the causation lies here (or if there even is a causal relation here) allergies resulting in self-hate is a decent enough just-so explanation

i imagine there’s effects in both directions. triggers stress your immune system, worse immune system makes you feel sick and bad so you spend less time around people which makes you more anxious and depressed (he said, definitely not just talking about himself)

I also wonder about the potential for a common cause. While I can’t speak to emotional triggers broadly, autoimmune issues and self loathing are both smart people problems.

super curious about this! my sense is that there’s something like a global sense of “how much danger is there” or “how bad are things” and that making this higher cranks up stress, puts strain on the immune system, exacerbates anxiety and depression, etc. l

me too. your sense jives with my first and second person (intimate partner care-taking) experience.

Ooof. I don’t presently have the spoons to reflect much on my years with spoonies, but the way autoimmune flareups seemed to hit emotions / focus / skin / gut / fascia at once was striking and memorable.
