someone read the entire series in publishing order like i did so we can compare notes on exactly when the series went downhill at the very end, i barely see anyone talking about this and i suspect it has something to do with the alzheimers 
It's a little hard to say as to where it goes downhill because his writing quality was always a little hit and miss and there are flops scattered throughout (e.g. Monstrous Regiment was absolutely phoned in but there were great books after it)
But yeah some of the later books the answer is absolutely Alzheimers.
